Solar Photovoltaic (PV) systems convert energy from the sun into electricity and can make a real contribution to our energy needs. Light particles from the sun, called photons, get absorbed into the silicone solar panel and collide with the electrons that are present in the silicone. These collisions cause the electrons to move around inside the silicone material and this is what creates electricity.

Solar heating involves the direct conversion of light into heat (see picture). This heat is generated through the absorption of the sun’s rays into the solar panel. Heat transfer fluid is pumped around the solar panel and through a special solar cylinder. This is where the heat exchange occurs, and water in the cylinder is heated.
